Fritz Wotruba’s oeuvre ranks among the classics of modern sculpture. After 1945, the artist develops his characteristic abstraction of the human figure on the basis of geometric forms. He also branches out into stage design, which helps him devise ways to open up his works: Wotruba now constructs, layers, and piles up blocks. One culmination of these efforts is the maquette for the Church of the Most Holy Trinity, which synthesizes his visions of the human figure, nature, landscape, and architecture. The so-called Wotruba Church is realized on the outskirts of Vienna between 1974 and 1976 based on plans for which the artist collaborates with the architect Fritz Gerhard Mayr.</schema:description><schema:artForm>Sculpture</schema:artForm><schema:url>https://sammlungtest.belvedere.at/objects/45940/rdf</schema:url></schema:VisualArtwork><schema:VisualArtwork><schema:image>/internal/media/dispatcher/140929/full</schema:image><schema:name>Teil zu Modell der Kirche Zur Heiligsten Dreifaltigkeit in Wien-Mauer</schema:name><schema:dateCreated>1967</schema:dateCreated><schema:creator>[Fritz Wotruba]</schema:creator><schema:creator>Fritz Wotruba</schema:creator><schema:artMedium>Gipsguss nach Tonmodell</schema:artMedium><schema:artForm>Sculpture</schema:artForm><schema:url>https://sammlungtest.belvedere.at/objects/45953/rdf</schema:url></schema:VisualArtwork><schema:VisualArtwork><schema:image>/internal/media/dispatcher/140931/full</schema:image><schema:name>Teile des Modells der Kirche Zur Heiligsten Dreifaltigkeit in Wien-Mauer</schema:name><schema:dateCreated>1967</schema:dateCreated><schema:creator>[Fritz Wotruba]</schema:creator><schema:creator>Fritz Wotruba</schema:creator><schema:artMedium>Gipsguss nach Tonmodell</schema:artMedium><schema:artForm>Sculpture</schema:artForm><schema:url>https://sammlungtest.belvedere.at/objects/46204/rdf</schema:url></schema:VisualArtwork><schema:VisualArtwork><schema:image>/internal/media/dispatcher/132556/full</schema:image><schema:name>Model of the Church of the Holy Trinity in Vienna-Mauer</schema:name><schema:dateCreated>1967</schema:dateCreated><schema:creator>[Fritz Wotruba]</schema:creator><schema:creator>Fritz Wotruba</schema:creator><schema:artMedium>Plaster cast from clay model</schema:artMedium><schema:description>
"The Church of the Most Holy Trinity" in Vienna is based on the artistic concept of the Austrian sculptor Fritz Wotruba. In 1965, he was commissioned to plan a Carmelite convent with an associated church, for which he produced this model in 1967. Although the convent project was never realized, the model later served as a schematic design for the church (1974 – 1976) on the Georgenberg in Vienna-Mauer, developed jointly by Wotruba and the architect Fritz Gerhard Mayr. Composed of 135 concrete blocks, the striking sacred building, which was widely debated at the time of its construction, draws on the formal vocabulary of Wotruba’s sculptural work, characterized by a dialogue between sculpture and architecture.</schema:description><schema:artForm>Sculpture</schema:artForm><schema:url>https://sammlungtest.belvedere.at/objects/46500/rdf</schema:url></schema:VisualArtwork><schema:VisualArtwork><schema:image>/internal/media/dispatcher/155311/full</schema:image><schema:name>Dachelement des Modells einer Zelleneinheit der nicht ausgeführten Klosteranlage für den Orden der Karmelitinnen in Steinbach bei Wien</schema:name><schema:dateCreated>um 1967</schema:dateCreated><schema:creator>[Fritz Wotruba]</schema:creator><schema:creator>Fritz Wotruba</schema:creator><schema:artMedium>Gipsguss nach Tonmodell</schema:artMedium><schema:artForm>Sculpture</schema:artForm><schema:url>https://sammlungtest.belvedere.at/objects/101723/rdf</schema:url></schema:VisualArtwork><schema:VisualArtwork><schema:image>/internal/media/dispatcher/155312/full</schema:image><schema:name>Holzplatte mit Positionslinien für Kirchen- oder Theatermodelle Fritz Wotrubas</schema:name><schema:dateCreated>1960–1966</schema:dateCreated><schema:creator>[Engelbert Lanzenberger]</schema:creator><schema:creator>Engelbert Lanzenberger</schema:creator><schema:artMedium>Holz, Bleistift</schema:artMedium><schema:artForm>Sculpture</schema:artForm><schema:url>https://sammlungtest.belvedere.at/objects/101725/rdf</schema:url></schema:VisualArtwork></rdf:RDF>
