  • For Robert Gabris, drawing has been a means of communication since an early age. By now, it has become a central medium of his practice, whose precise visual language also finds expression in sculptural objects, large-scale installations, and performative works. A single sheet of paper often seems too small to contain the emotions translated into drawn lines. Accordingly, the multipart work Drawing Manifesto both executes and presents something whose seemingly chaotic web appears to be the product of a highly controlled drawing obsession while at the same time claiming to serve as a manifesto for the discipline of drawing itself. In his compositions, Gabris challenges the notion of fixed norms and creates space for fluid bodies that live by their own laws.
