Questions of perception are central to Eva Schlegel’s photographs, objects, and installations. Since the 2020s, Schlegel has been intensively exploring the technique of lithography and ist imaging processes. In „Untitled (Ts20)“, an energetic vortex cuts through the blackness of the large-format print, which is composed of four parts. As in numerous other works from this period, the artist addresses personal memories of the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, which she witnessed firsthand, as well as the images of the disaster disseminated through the media. In the print, Schlegel translates the unbridled pull of the masses of water into gestural traces, developed through grinding and reworking the lithographic stone.
