  • In her large-scale works, sculptor Liesl Raff explores the specific materiality of latex—its tactile, fluid, and ultimately corporeal properties. The works emerge through a process directed by the artist but open-ended in its outcome: Raff mixes pigments into the still-liquid latex and pours it into metal frames. Form, surface, and color only emerge during the drying and curing process, and continue to react to external factors such as temperature, climate, and light afterward. The organic character of the objects, which evoke associations with human skin, is further enhanced through their combination with industrial materials such as metal or polyester. In the exhibition space, the works unfold an atmospheric presence through spatial arrangements that appeal to both visual and physical perception.
