The Velino River once flowed into swamps further south but was diverted by the Romans so it cascades down several tiers into the Nera River below. In Nerly’s painting the surroundings of the waterfall seem wild and rugged. The view descends steeply from the shadowy foreground, loses itself in inhospitable terrain, before rising again to the mountain in the background. In stage-like fashion, the flanks of two hills enter the picture space from the sides and evoke the impression of depth. </value></field><field label="Genre" name="classification"><value>Painting</value></field><field label="Id" name="id"><value>10302440</value></field><field label="Source ID" name="sourceId"><value>2093</value></field><field name="media" mediaRecordID="16069" label="Media"><type>Image</type><license>Diese Bilddateien werden ausschließlich für privaten Gebrauch zur Verfügung gestellt.
