Rebell captures the area in the evening light and guides our gaze towards the south-west, to the islands of Prócida on the left and Ischia on the right. A group of music-making and dancing figures has been touched by the last rays of the sinking sun and their gleaming outlines stand out from the murky background.

Although the light has been rendered realistically, the composition recalls the paintings of Claude Lorrain (1600–1682). Like this artist, Rebell has placed trees in the foreground at the left and right edges of the picture. From here he guides our gaze into the picture's depths – to Lago d'Averno and Lago di Fusaro, with hazy surfaces that lead on to the distant islands and merge with the boundless sky on the horizon. </schema:description><schema:artForm>Painting</schema:artForm><schema:url>https://sammlungtest.belvedere.at/objects/3223/rdf</schema:url></schema:VisualArtwork></rdf:RDF>
