It shows a scene from the Old Testament: Samson possesses invincible strength derived from his hair. Delilah, a Philistine, entices him to reveal his secret and shaves his head while he is asleep. Samson is then captured, blinded, and imprisoned. Rembrandt\u2019s painting was in the collection of Count Schönborn in Vienna until 1905. Maulbertsch could therefore have seen the original. However, Maulbertsch used different colors suggesting that he was probably basing his painting on a print of Rembrandt\u2019s work."},"title2":{"label":"Alternative Title","value":"Kopie nach Rembrandt"},"medium":{"label":"Medium","value":"Oil on wood"},"onview":{"label":"On View","value":"0"},"media":{"label":"Media","value":["https://sammlungtest.belvedere.at/internal/media/dispatcher/4071/full"]},"title":{"label":"Title","value":"The Blinding of Simson"},"classification":{"label":"Genre","value":"Painting"},"primaryMedia":{"label":"PrimaryMedia","value":"https://sammlungtest.belvedere.at/internal/media/dispatcher/4071/full"},"displayDate":{"label":"Date","value":"1787/1790"},"id":{"label":"Id","value":"10592289"},"iiifManifest":{"value":"https://sammlungtest.belvedere.at/apis/iiif/presentation/v2/1-objects-5655/manifest"},"dimensions":{"label":"Dimensions","value":"41 x 55 cm"}}]}
