His St. Stephen\u2019s Square is a hive of activity. A procession is passing through, a store\u2019s displays attract customers. Some people stand still in pious contemplation, while others crowd around the store regardless, and a carriage waits in the shade. All this takes place in front of the Gothic St. Stephen\u2019s Cathedral, which Alt has depicted against a low sky. The cathedral looks like a backdrop on a stage and, as in a theater, pieces of scenery jut into the \u201cset\u201d on either side. On the left a steeply angled façade draws the viewer\u2019s eyes into the pictorial depths, whereas the Baroque Lazansky House on the right positively blocks our line of sight."},"medium":{"label":"Medium","value":"Oil on canvas"},"onview":{"label":"On View","value":"0"},"media":{"label":"Media","value":["https://sammlungtest.belvedere.at/internal/media/dispatcher/91823/full"]},"title":{"label":"Title","value":"St Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna"},"classification":{"label":"Genre","value":"Painting"},"primaryMedia":{"label":"PrimaryMedia","value":"https://sammlungtest.belvedere.at/internal/media/dispatcher/115501/full"},"displayDate":{"label":"Date","value":"1832"},"id":{"label":"Id","value":"10593387"},"iiifManifest":{"value":"https://sammlungtest.belvedere.at/apis/iiif/presentation/v2/1-objects-7881/manifest"},"dimensions":{"label":"Dimensions","value":"46 x 57,5 cm"}}]}
