His St. Stephen’s Square is a hive of activity. A procession is passing through, a store’s displays attract customers. Some people stand still in pious contemplation, while others crowd around the store regardless, and a carriage waits in the shade. All this takes place in front of the Gothic St. Stephen’s Cathedral, which Alt has depicted against a low sky. The cathedral looks like a backdrop on a stage and, as in a theater, pieces of scenery jut into the “set” on either side. On the left a steeply angled façade draws the viewer’s eyes into the pictorial depths, whereas the Baroque Lazansky House on the right positively blocks our line of sight.</value></field><field label="Genre" name="classification"><value>Painting</value></field><field label="Id" name="id"><value>10593387</value></field><field label="Source ID" name="sourceId"><value>7881</value></field><field name="media" mediaRecordID="115501" label="Media"><type>image/jpeg</type><license>In Copyright</license><mediaCopyright>Foto: Johannes Stoll / Belvedere, Wien</mediaCopyright><value>https://sammlungtest.belvedere.at/internal/media/dispatcher/115501/full</value></field><field name="media" mediaRecordID="91822" label="Media"><type>image/jpeg</type><license>In Copyright</license><mediaCopyright>Foto: Johannes Stoll / Belvedere, Wien</mediaCopyright><value>https://sammlungtest.belvedere.at/internal/media/dispatcher/91822/full</value></field><field name="media" mediaRecordID="91823" label="Media"><type>image/jpeg</type><license>In Copyright</license><mediaCopyright>Foto: Johannes Stoll / Belvedere, Wien</mediaCopyright><value>https://sammlungtest.belvedere.at/internal/media/dispatcher/91823/full</value></field><field name="iiifManifest"><value>https://sammlungtest.belvedere.at/apis/iiif/presentation/v2/1-objects-7881/manifest</value></field></object>
