Time and again the great watercolorist Rudolf von Alt felt the draw of the South; he was in Venice on multiple occasions. 1833 was the year of his first visit to the city on the lagoon. At the time he was accompanying his father Jakob Alt who, like his son, was a specialist in landscapes.
