Right after completion, he showed the painting in 1828 at an exhibition at the Vienna academy, where he attracted considerable public attention. Although painted in a studio, the portrait convincingly simulates the open-air setting. Waldmüller succeeds in bathing the figure and landscape in the same light. Underneath his signature, which indicates that he was thirty-five years old at the time, is a peony, referring cleverly to his great skill as a flower painter. His versatility made him one of the most sought-after artists in Vienna."},"title2":{"label":"Alternative Title","value":"\"Porträt des Malers Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller von ihm selbst gemahlt\""},"medium":{"label":"Medium","value":"Oil on canvas"},"onview":{"label":"On View","value":"1"},"media":{"label":"Media","value":["https://sammlungtest.belvedere.at/internal/media/dispatcher/91799/full"]},"title":{"label":"Title","value":"Self-Portrait as a Young Man"},"classification":{"label":"Genre","value":"Painting"},"primaryMedia":{"label":"PrimaryMedia","value":"https://sammlungtest.belvedere.at/internal/media/dispatcher/91799/full"},"displayDate":{"label":"Date","value":"1828"},"id":{"label":"Id","value":"11049509"},"iiifManifest":{"value":"https://sammlungtest.belvedere.at/apis/iiif/presentation/v2/1-objects-7921/manifest"},"dimensions":{"label":"Dimensions","value":"95 × 75 cm"}}]}
