All able-bodied men were conscripted for active duty. Privileged groups, including nobles, public officials, and also peasants, were exempt from compulsory military service although many volunteered for this prestigious duty anyway. The Landwehr played an important role at the 1813 Battle of the Nations near Leipzig in which Napoleon was defeated. Johann Peter Krafft’s painting dates from the same year. The artist shows a soldier with his family at the moment when he is about to set out to war. The protagonist is characterized as a hero who is prepared to sacrifice his life for his country. </value></field><field label="Genre" name="classification"><value>Painting</value></field><field label="Id" name="id"><value>10593475</value></field><field label="Source ID" name="sourceId"><value>8042</value></field><field label="Location" name="locationssite"><value>Upper Belvedere</value></field><field name="media" mediaRecordID="4876" label="Media"><type>image/jpeg</type><license>In Copyright</license><mediaCopyright>Foto: Belvedere, Wien</mediaCopyright><value>https://sammlungtest.belvedere.at/internal/media/dispatcher/4876/full</value></field><field name="iiifManifest"><value>https://sammlungtest.belvedere.at/apis/iiif/presentation/v2/1-objects-8042/manifest</value></field></object>
