  • Lily Greenham’s multifaceted oeuvre ranges from Concrete Art to sound poetry and experimental tape music. Her work has been internationally recognized as a significant contribution to the postwar avant-garde. Beginning in 1952, Greenham studied at the Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna and maintained close ties with the Wiener Gruppe around Gerhard Rühm and Konrad Bayer, whose texts she frequently performed. In 1964 she moved to Paris and joined the Groupe de recherche d’art visuel (GRAV). During this period, she created kinetic light objects and Op Art collages, which were featured in major exhibitions, including The Responsive Eye in 1965 at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. At the time, Greenham focused on what she called “research into color interaction,” in which she used geometric configurations to explore the relationship between colors and their perceptual effects.
