  • Painter and draftsman Alois Mosbacher has been developing a distinctive visual language since the 1980s, when his early expressive works established him as a leading figure of the Neue Malerei movement in Austria. In his work, natural motifs, abstract yet organic forms, and fragments of reality merge into complex compositions brimming with symbolism and enigmatic condensation. In „Humboldt“, the artist depicts various plant forms, including thistles and succulents. Surrounded by abstract organic elements, they form an interwoven structure that seems to float against the white background. Mosbacher’s presentation of nature as a diverse, unordered, yet interconnected organism is entirely in line with the ideas of German naturalist Alexander von Humboldt, to whom the title refers.
