Created in 2017 for the Lahore Biennale in Pakistan, the eight-part photographic series \u201eRituals of Resistance\u201c draws on the visual language of ethnographic photography and stages monkeys interacting with minimalist objects. As the animals occupy the sculptures, hang out on them, or use them for their own \u201crituals,\u201d the works of Western modernism become stripped of their supposedly universal significance. Walkowiak thus questions the relationship between nature and culture as well as the glorification of Western art traditions. In the spirit of a poetic reversal of colonial and art-historical power structures, his \u201eRituals of Resistance\u201c undermine the authority and validity of abstraction with playful ease."},"title2":{"label":"Alternative Title","value":"Rituals of Resistance #3"},"medium":{"label":"Medium","value":"Archival pigment print on textile"},"onview":{"label":"On View","value":"0"},"media":{"label":"Media","value":["https://sammlungtest.belvedere.at/internal/media/dispatcher/124796/full"]},"title":{"label":"Title","value":"Rituals of Resistance #3"},"classification":{"label":"Genre","value":"Photography"},"primaryMedia":{"label":"PrimaryMedia","value":"https://sammlungtest.belvedere.at/internal/media/dispatcher/124796/full"},"displayDate":{"label":"Date","value":"2017"},"id":{"label":"Id","value":"12372848"},"iiifManifest":{"value":"https://sammlungtest.belvedere.at/apis/iiif/presentation/v2/1-objects-87553/manifest"},"dimensions":{"label":"Dimensions","value":"ungerahmt: 200 × 120 cm"}}]}
