Waldmüller has missed nothing: neither the small asymmetries to be found in every human face, nor its fine wrinkles nor the slight reddish hue of the eyelids. Rosina Wieser was eighty-three when Waldmüller painted her in July 1820, according to the inscription on the reverse of the picture. Two months before, he had portrayed Rosina\u2019s son Vinzenz.
