  • Austrian-Swiss artist Frenzi Rigling draws on materials, objects, and actions from everyday life as the inspiration for her art. Scraps of fabric, clothing, other functional items, and found objects from nature variously find their way into her drawings, works on canvas, objects, and installations. In Rigling’s practice, the seemingly insignificant, often overlooked and hidden are imbued with meaning. Textiles, in particular, are an integral part of her work. On the one hand, they reflect her personal biography: Rigling’s mother was a seamstress, so she has been familiar with textile work since her childhood. On the other hand, they also serve as a feminist reflection on the hierarchization of art and craft. In her minimalist, poetic visual language, the artist deliberately lays bare the creative process and the transience of the materials involved.
