The gloriosa flowers depicted in this work are not the point of departure for a narrative but a means of questioning the medium of painting itself with regard to color, form, structure, and space. In Framed Gloriosa the artist worked on the canvas from the front and the back, using both a paintbrush and an airbrush, and created space by deliberately leaving gaps.
