Holding one leg in his hands, the Carinthian poet and author Johannes Lindner (1896\u20131985) assumes a casual pose. He appears to be sitting opposite the artist in a relaxed atmosphere. However, the cool colors and their expressive effect seem to contradict this impression. The degree of abstraction and the uniform coloration of figure and background lead to the subject not revealing itself immediately but requiring the viewer to discover his presence. The year this work was produced, Boeckl gave up his architecture degree once and for all in order to concentrate exclusively on painting. Alongside this painting, he also created others in which the color white plays a crucial role. It gives the impression that the subject is sitting in dazzling light that barely casts a shadow. With this portrait, Boeckl certainly demonstrates a distinct personal style that would find no parallel in the Austrian art world."},"title2":{"label":"Alternative Title","value":"Weißes Porträt (Johannes Lindner)"},"medium":{"label":"Medium","value":"Oil on canvas"},"onview":{"label":"On View","value":"0"},"media":{"label":"Media","value":["https://sammlungtest.belvedere.at/internal/media/dispatcher/153752/full"]},"title":{"label":"Title","value":"Johannes Lindner (White Portrait)"},"classification":{"label":"Genre","value":"Painting"},"primaryMedia":{"label":"PrimaryMedia","value":"https://sammlungtest.belvedere.at/internal/media/dispatcher/153752/full"},"displayDate":{"label":"Date","value":"1919"},"id":{"label":"Id","value":"12367953"},"iiifManifest":{"value":"https://sammlungtest.belvedere.at/apis/iiif/presentation/v2/1-objects-14394/manifest"},"dimensions":{"label":"Dimensions","value":"99 × 72 cm"}}]}
