Titian and Peter Paul Rubens both painted famous portraits of women clad only in a fur wrap. But Manet\u2019s interpretation is completely different from his famous predecessors. Rather than an elevated or detached image, this appears to be an authentic snapshot of Parisian life at the time. The impression of spontaneity is further heightened by the artist\u2019s chosen medium of pastel.
