The work „Last Rites“ was bequeathed to the museum in 2023. As a keen observer, Waldmüller depicts his surroundings and everyday life during the Biedermeier period in this genre painting. He shows a priest in festive vestments who is about to cross the threshold into the death chamber of a rural wine press house. On the right side of the painting, grieving relatives have knelt down in devout prayer.
