In the 1970s, Kazuko Miyamoto developed her series of „String Constructions“: two- and threedimensional works composed of nails and countless cotton threads, stretched along walls and floors to exert a strong bodily presence in space. They pick up on the tradition of Minimalism yet go beyond its strict approach to geometric abstraction by leaving the traces of manual technique and possible human errors visible. The ephemeral String Constructions must be deinstalled and reinstalled for each presentation following a set of instructions. Starting from simple geometric patterns, Miyamoto developed the works into increasingly complex condensations.
