The sandstone sculpture shows Saint George triumphing over a dragon, which, legend has it, he defeated. The figure has lost both hands and the lance, but crosses remain visible on the surcoat and shield. Traces of paint prove that the sculpture was once polychromed. With its exceptional level of detail and nuanced expressiveness, this Saint George is considered one of the most significant works of sculpture in the German-speaking regions around 1400.
