Judith Fegerl’s artistic practice reflects an ongoing interest in the overlaps between physics and the physical, science, art, and life. In her sculptures and installation-based spatial arrangements, she repeatedly employs and sets in motion physical, chemical, and especially electrical processes, devising constellations that allow materials and their specific properties to interact. Electricity is a constitutive element in this process, as in the work moment. The three-part sculpture, composed of solid steel rods, copper wire coils, and magnets, is held in a precarious balance by an electric current. The instant the power supply is interrupted, the sculpture collapses.
