In both life and art Anton Prinner defied rigid categorization and challenged the binary idea of gender. After studying at the Budapest academy, where Prinner, along with other women, was taught separately from men, the artist moved to Paris in the late 1920s and chose the name Anton. Here, Prinner made pioneering Constructivist sculptures and later created schematic bodies with mysterious, androgynous features.
