  • In the three paintings by Anna Maria Punz, meticulously rendered everyday objects play the starring roles. Their stark arrangement contrasts with the opulent and ornate still lifes of the Baroque. Although these works appear modern, calling to mind the style of New Objectivity from the 1920s and 1930s, the origins of this approach are to be found in Dutch still-life painting from the first half of the 17th century. Exactly where the painter found inspiration for these works is not recorded. Although the key dates of her life are documented, no further information about the artist’s career has as yet come to light.
