  • The video installation „Bodies at Work“ was created in the urban development area surrounding Vienna’s Central Station. In it, Anna Witt explores concepts for an optimized work and living environment, drawing an analogy between “work” (paid labor) and “workout” (exercise). Using a five-channel video, she interweaves workspaces at Erste Campus, in hotels, and on constructions sites with footage of athletic interventions, forming a fragmentary whole. A group of calisthenics athletes appropriates the buildings and workplaces for their physical exercises. Their arguably most popular and challenging workout is the “human flag,” in which the tensed body is extended horizontally from a pole. The thematic threads draw on conversations with employees on site and address their experiences, as well as reflections and utopias concerning the relationship between the individual, work, power, and society.
