  • Angelika Loderer often finds the form of her sculptural works in nature, in her immediate surroundings, or derives them from the materials she uses. In doing so, the properties and processing methods of the materials become fundamental parameters in the creative process. In her media-reflective practice, Loderer plays with the tension between chance and intention, negative and positive space, as well as with dualities such as stability and fragility, permanence and transience. For the Pour Hole series, developed from 2012 onward, the artist casts abandoned mole tunnels and transfers the plaster model into an aluminum cast. The resulting positive form of an underground cavity with ist branching structures now rises upward, revealing what was once invisible. In this way, Loderer incorporates nonhuman beings into the process of searching for artistic form.
